Default Left 2000 Arctic 300 4X4 in rain

problems starting and keeping my quad running ever since I left in rain a couple of days. Check air filter and not wet. Sprayed wd-40 on all wires, sprayed starter fluid on air filter. Got it started, let in run for awhile. Road it around house for a bit no problems shifting or anything. Left it idle for alittle bit longer, then it died. Had problems starting it again. Got is started road it around and noticed if would not display when it was in first gear. Now lights up I think it is water level display. Road it around again. No problems displaying 2, 3, 4 or 5. Road in reverse again no problems. Turned it off and and waited a few minutes and had problems again starting it. Any idea what this could be? Had zero problems starting before I left it out in the rain, would start up one push. Please help. I am very new to this all. thanks

There are some electrical connections at the base of the steering column under the plastic in a tiny channel. Check that they don't have some water in them and they also unplug fairly easy. Usually after you wire in a winch and run the wiring for the switch up the steering column.

In addition to what Tancat500 said you can perform what I call a battery/ charging system test to rule out the battery. Start the machine and put a volt meter across the battery terminals at idle and it should be 12-13volts DC. shut the machine off and check the voltage again and it should be about 12volts. If it is not, remove the battery from the machine and charge with a trickle 2amp charge overnight (you should not charge an ATV battery with more than a 2amp charge). Check the voltage again and it should be about 12volts. Let the battery sit for about 12hrs and check voltage again and it should still be about 12 volts.

Usually after charging you have 12+ volts and after it sits for 12hrs it has around 9-10volts which means a bad battery cell. Normally with electrical issues the battery is the first place to start.

Just to give update. I left machine to dry out. Duh......I found out from my neighbor that was leaving the choke on all the time and after of 10 min of idle it would die. I could not get it off of choke because it seemed like it was getting little fuel. I checked the spark plug, It was all black. I changed the plug and still did not help. I did some reading on here and in the manual and decided to adjust the carb, since it was recently cleaned by a friend I thought well maybe he didnt set it correctly. sure enough I adjusted the carb a little and it purrs.. I also checked he plug after it ran for a while and it was fine. I am still having an issue though with 1st gear not lighting up. Any suggestions?
