bought a speedwerx clutch kit

bought a clutch kit for my 2008 700. im running 28" swamplites and when i called to order they asked if my elavation was between 0-3000ft. my question is what does elavation have to do with a clutch kit. Ill be heading to wyoming next week and ill be riding 6000-9000ft. The guy said ill loose about 40% of my power out there. would i be better off leaving it stock?

I would install the clutch kit before you leave for Wyoming because it will only help turn the bigger tires at any altitude. The higher the altitude the less oxygen, less oxygen means less HP. Installing larger than stock tires will rob HP. So if you are going to a higher altitude, its robbing even more HP. I installed a EPI clutch kit in my 700 and the highest altitude kit they had was a 3,000 to 6,000 and I do most of my riding at 7,000 to 11,000 in Utah and Wyoming. I am running 27's and I could not believe how much the kit helped, WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

I have a question along the same lines, I'm at 600ft, not a typo an actual 600ft.
BUT, would going to the 3000ft to 6000ft kit be even better?
I could care less about top end.
What would be the difference between the 2 kits in terms of performance?
Thanks,
BTI

the higher up you go in elevation means there is less oxygen to supply to the motor. the clutch kit includes a different main jet for the carburetor because if you mess with the clutches on these then you also mess with the motor. the two are tied together. if you are in a higher elevation, you would get a smaller main jet. and a lower elevation would require a bigger main jet to compensate for the amount of oxygen available to the intake. wrong jetting and you could run the motor too rich or too lean.
performance wise the kits would act the same givin you are at the altitude that the kit was designed for.

i understand re-jetting a carb. my question is on a EFI 700 model. why,if the efi adjusts to altitude, what does a clutch kit have to do with elavation? since i had posted this topic i had already gon to wyoming. i didnt get the clutch kit in since i only had 2 days before i left, but my atv did awsome at 6-7000 ft. i could tell i had small power loss but it made it to the top in 12-14" of snow. the 28" swamplites are a great tire also.
