Welcome to the forum, Lots of good people and knowledge around here.

1. Kept original tires and rims so they wouldn't give me any crap about the warr. and the dealer I use said unless the breakdown is related to the bigger tires he could care less..
2. I have had to shim starters before and also make sure the starter disengages after it starts.
3. It was a different bike but on my 1400 V-twin it had a compression release on it and would not even turn over unless it was working correctly.

There are a lot of people on here that know alot more about that quad than me..
Good luck!

it really has nothing to do with the starter and everything to do with the decompression valve, pretty much all the 08s have this issue and even some 09s and its the decompression valve then when the motor locks up while its trying to crank it starts to kill the starter and thats why the starters are said to be junk, because they are but only because of a different problem, and yet cat has no real fix for it yet, let it idol for about 1 min before shutting it off and it should be fine my 09 even had the starting issue once but not very bad just let off the starter and hit the button again, oh and adjusting the valves dose not fix it, someone use to say its defective cams thats not true, My personal theory is to much advanced timing during start up when warm but the decompression valve has a lot to do with it to. Its not your battery like some say either, not starter, not battery, not the front cam, and its not the valves needing adjustment. Just narrowing it down for you. Visit arcticchat.com and there is a thread about it that is the forum I usually hang around, much more info there and a lot faster then here and a lot more answers there with good people.
