its hard for me to explain but ill try my best. depending what axle its on, take the brake caliper off and the upper and lower A-arms. remove the large nut holding the axle on and anything else in your way to get the axle off. pull the axle out with your hands( pull hard or jerk it. there is a small C-clip inside so you have to get past it). when you get to the point that all you have in your hand is the axle with cv boots on each end, pull the cv boot off(cut it if you want). the cv joint itself will be full of grease and inside around the edge is a ring(its hard to see because of all the grease so you may need to wide it out.) use a medium size flat head screw driver to pry the ring out. its kinda octagon shape. once that is out you should be able pull it apart and pull the cv boot off or put it back on. like i said its hard to explain, i learned just by trying to figure it out one day. once you do it once, it will take you about 20-30 min the next time. I havent done it for abut 3 years so im sure my explanation is a little off but its the best i can do. oh, dont forget to put mor grease in side the boot before you put it on. sorry if my explanation sucks.

Go to the following site http://thecvman.com/

If you click on the picture of the CV joint you can find a link to the CV boot that you need. You can order it from here. They are a heavy duty CV boot and it is easy to install. Last CV boots I ordered were delivered in about 4-5 days and came with everything needed except a boot clamping tool.

If you click on the "tech tip" link you will find directions on HOW to replace either the inner cv boot (the one next to the differential) or the outer cv boot (the one next to the wheel). I believe you need an extra set of boot clamps to change out the outer CV boot because you have to remove the inner cv boot to get at it.

Last time I changed one out I changed out 4 boots. Took about an hour but I have done several of them and it gets faster each time. Just remember to CLEAN everything as the grease in the CV is the type that DOES NOT mix with other types of grease at all.

Also, I have pictures of the process I got from some place before I did my first CV boot. I can send them to you if you want OR I will try to find the site I got them from and get that to you as well.

If you have specific questions email Danny W. there at the web site and he is very good about responding quickly.

Hope this helps.

SJ

I did a post on detailed instructions for changing an axle and also a cv joint - try doing a search for cv joint or broken axle and look for my name, I am sure you will find it.
