been having a problem with my 2005 artic cat 400 stalling out. It seems when I drive it for about 10 to 20 miles it will start losing power then backfiring then shutting down. I can restart the engine right away, but after it starts doing this i can only go for about 1/2 mile at a time until the same thing starts happening. If I let the artic cat cool down for awhile it seems to run fine until it starts happening again.
some things that i have done is change the spark plug and put fresh gas in, I've also drained the carb a few times, but its still happening
any help would be appreciated thanks

I had the exact same problem on my '99 Arctic Cat 250 2x4. I suggest you do what I did, and take a multimeter to the battery when it is off (should read 12V), and then when it is running (should be around 14V). If it isn't 14 volts when it is running, take off the plastics, disconnect and clean your grounds, and then trace the wires as far as you can. Make sure you wiggle them around with your hands when you do, but have the bike off so you don't get zapped. My problem wound up being at the voltage regulator, there was w wire that had corroded away in one of the connectors. If you don't have the book, just go online to a parts place where you can look up part numbers, and they should have exploded views of every system to help you trace it out. If you can't figure it out that way, it might be the stator (which unless you are a professional mechanic, you might want to think about taking to the shop).
All of that popping and sputtering is probably just your battery dying on you because it can't charge itself back up as you are riding.
Best of luck, and hope it is a cheap and easy fix.
