Default 2004 DVX FOUR HUNDRED, blown engine?

HI im posting this for a friend of my'n. The atv is a 04 DVX 400. And my friend just did an oil change without replacing the filter on it. And he was riding the four wheeler when it backfired and then stalled shortly after, he immediately checked the gas and it had a 1/4 tank. then he restarted the foruwheeler and gave it some throttle, the four wheeler stalled, he then immediately got off and checked the oil, the tanks was empty(he did start the engine and checked the oil leavel after running when he did do the last oil change), he has put about 12 hours on it since its last oil change. The only place it seems to be leaking is out of the oil overflow tube, and it hasnt been leaking at an alarming rate, maybe a few drops now and then . Now he can only start the fourwheeler if the chock is on, regardless of the engine temp. After he put 800 ml of 30 weight oil in the 2000ml reserve which calls for 40 weight, it will not start. We are wondering if or why it is possibly burning or losing so much oil. and what can i do to fix it. Also do you think the engine is gone and needs a rebuild?

we start it and it sounds just like it did before, but the minute we give it any gas it just bogs way down, we just started it like three seconds before this post and if we slowly increase the throttle it sounds fine but i'm sure the minute i put any amount of load on the engine it will stall. is this a compression issue or what? or is there something i can add to my oil to fix this, like marvel mystery oil and such. It isnt making any weird noises just bogging

Well he put to much oil in because he didnt drain it at the lowest point and filled the oil over flow to the top when he did the last oil change. What should he do now?

First of all why change the oil and leave in the old filter? That was mistake #1.

What do you mean he didn't drain the oil at the lowest point? There are TWO drain plugs in that engine.....One for the crank case and one for the oil tank.....BOTH have to be drained during an oil change and the tank must be refilled.

Drain ALL the oil, change the filter....... and put in some good 10-40 oil.....if the engine was blow it would not start at all.

Sounds like hydraulic lock especiall since you said too much oil. Like ss97 said or take it to the dealer at let them do the changes for you.

First thing you want to do, is download this. It's the service manual. Second thing, read it.
