How many inches of mud has you Cat made it through?
Was it with stock or aftermarket tires?

 

It really depends on if the mud is extreamly thick and stick or if it is really watery. The base that is under the mud also is a factor. My dads stock 400 has been through "watery" mud that has started to come over the front fenders, the main reason he made it was because of the base under the mud that he could get traction on. With the really thick stick mud we have found that ground clearance is everything. He can make it as long as he doesnt bottom out. But when his front skidplate digs in he is done.

Mud and water, I have been up as far as I dared to test the airbox. Actual mud, well, I have been through as far as the frame, and after that, there really isn't much you can do. When the quad frames out, the wheels spin out ruts, and you basically become a beached whale surrounded by four little mud pools. I've done that a few times.

Like the other guy said, depends on the base. If its just slime all the way, then you can get away with going through stuff over the frame. If its solid, then there is a good chance you will skid the frame up on it and dig up some ruts.

 

In water I have had water come over my racks. I have been in mud that was about the consistancy of tomato paste that was up to the racks. Thats with stock tires too.

When I ran my claws for the first time I was riding around all day draging bottom. The only time I would get stuck is when I hit truck ruts. Then I jumped off my bike to find I was waist deep, but the quad would only sink to the skid plate cause of the thick red clayish mud.
