Default arctic cat 300 4x4 lift kit and engine kit

i have a 1999 arctic cat 300 4x4. i know it is a smaller engine, but i only paid $600 for it. i am going to put a lift on it to give a better stance and then get some wheels and tires. has anyone lifted a 300 and if so, what lift did you use? i am leaning towards the moose lift mainly because of cost. my question is-what kind of engine mods can i do to get a little more power for the bigger tires? i don't want to go crazy, but some minor mods to get a little boost is all i am after.

I am not sure if ther are many engine mods for the 300.

You could try rejetting the carb, and installing a "high flow" air filter like K&N or replacing the muffler. That may give you a little more punch but as a downside your fuel consumtion will decrease.

Also, as you are probably aware of, a larger tire will rob some power. I thinkn you should be fine with a tire 1inch taller or wider than stock. I do not know off the top of my head what stock tire sizes are for that machine.

I can tell you that if you go to a larger tire, a lift kit and get some more power froma jet kit and such you are increasing the possibility of damaging other critical drive train components like a CV joint, axle or wheel bearings.

You can do some searching on the web and I am pretty sure your engine is made by Suzuki (since its a 1999) so look for parts for that engine as well.

this is mainly the wife's quad to ride. she complained that her's is so low to the ground. i ended up ordering the moose lift. it will be here wed. i am going to run 26"ers. stock size is 25. with the lift and an little from the tire, i think it will be ok. the guys from mudthrowers recommended nothing larger than 26 or i will be loosing power.

No engine mods needed, just snorkel it and let it breath. I had a AC 250 4x4 with 2" HL lidt and ran 26" mudlites with no problems. I still kick myself fpr selling it.

the 1999 is a suzi motor.
the KN+dynojet kit WILL feel like more power

don't waste your money on bigger/badder tires.. get some take off 12" dunlops IF the ones are warn down, and go with that,

there's a start in gear diode you can pop in, which lets you get away with some fun.

easy to snorkle, easy to get the seat off..

if you ever have to pull start it... take seat off, pull till it's "hard" then raise the compression release lever, leave it up, and pull the cord .. if you do it THAT what, its easy

1999s are known for rectifier failure, so if it drains the battery, that's probably what you got... or if it doesn't charge well.

great fun bikes.. and while you have the thing apart to put the lift on it, change all your CV boots..

the axles PULL out ... which is funny as heck when/if you get to that part.

seriously, get the boots and do them at the same time.

Some tin "flashing" from the HVAC part of home depot will make you some really good boot protectors.. that, and some rustoleum flat black spray paint

great bikes, run forever if you do your part.. and an inline filter is 5 bucks for gas

oh, forgot to mention, the crankcase takes a TON of oil

NEVER EVER switch from hi to lo with the bike even MOVING...

Low range will pull you out of a serious amount of STUCK .. 4x4, 1 or 2 gear, with KN+jet, dude you don't NEED any engine mods

top speed is what it is.. about 40-45 max, you just can't make it go faster without spending a PILE of money

i really appreciate the info. the only thing is the old tires aren't worn at all. the quad only has 250 miles on it. there isn't a thing worn out on it. the guy i got it from bought it new and only used it to plow his small drive and for deer hunting. i am going to see how it looks after i put the lift on it. the max i will go are 26's for tires. it is a really nice quad, especially for what i paid for it. i just want a little nicer stance and of course, need the shiny wheels. the old steels are getting some rust.

i had a 300 and in the manual it said, and i quote "WARNING: Do not lube air filter", do yourself a favor, before you get out there and ride, "Lube The Air Filter", i had to put a set of rings on mine with only 900 miles on my 300 and a friend did his 2 times on his 300. He actually went to the dealer and asked why not to oil it, they said your supposed to. He smiled and showed them the manual that the bike came with and they couldnt believe it said that. Or check into another after market airfilter that you CAN oil. I also recommend not pulling a 2 ton combine with it. lol. it pulled it without any hesitation in super low but it bent my frame. Aaaaaahh, yes good times!! Oh and as jeffeosso stated, my rectifier did infact ground out and drained my battery. An 80 dollar part.

its an odd bolt pattern, i think only AC and suzi use it ... i would, and have, had walmart pull the wheels, have them blasted and black powder coated, and put back on. you can do it yourself, if you know someone with a blasting cabinette, for cheap.

of course, an angle grinder with a wirewheel (and safety gear) will do a same ish job, and then back to krylon...

a new set of dunlops off craigslist and some paint, dude, seriously
