Angry speedometer trouble

Need some help here.....I've got an '08 650 H1 and took it out last weekend for some fun. In the middle of the fun, the speedo went to 0. All the other LCD stuff works but the speedo registers zero. It will occasionally jump up like it's trying to be a tach or like something is just barely connected.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Hopefully something I can just tighten/reconnect without any $$$.

Thumbs down

Had the same problem with mine. had to take it to the dealership for warranty. The speed sensor was shot.

If I was riding say 30 it would read 0 most of the time and then jump to 100 then 65 then 92 then back to 0. when stopped it would jump around sometimes as well.

edit: I have an 08 650h1 as well

Same thing happened to our friends Arctic Cat. It was under warranty and he took it to the cat dealer for repair. It broke again along with the gas gauge. He just lives with it that way as everything else is running fine. He wasn't able to find any quick fixes and it is just too far to the dealer.

Welcome to the '08 650H1 club!

Your spedo problem could be a simple fix. PULL THE GREEN 30amp fuse in the fuse box. This sometime re-sets the gauge cluster. If that doesn't work unhook the battery (basically the same thing) for a few minutes. - if not let the dealer fix it.

As for the gas gauge issue mentioned earlier.....it's a SULFER buildup on the sending unit from crappy gas (usually a NW region issue). Chevron's TECHTRON additive has had varied results in fixing it. I've also heard that the BEST fix is to pull the plastics and removed the sending unit and "clean" it w/brake cleaner and bend the contact tabs a weee bit to make better contact. Seems to work.

I'm at the "pulling the plastics" point w/my TRV. The gas gauge is wacky.

my 2¢

The sending unit went on mine as well. Took it to the dealership and let them replace it free.
They recommended running fuel conditioner every 3 or 4 tanks to keep the fuel gauge working.
