Default 1998 500 4x4 info

Hi all.
My son just picked up this bike that is in dire need of some TLC as well as some parts. Looks like somebody else before him started but never got very far.

If anybody has some good links it could really help.

cdi unit is missing.
coil

A good manual would help him a lot as well as well as me
thanks

You migh check ebay for some of the parts you need. YOu can sometimes find parts off machines people are parting out. The good news is that I don't think any Major changes took place on the AC 500 until 2005. Ecxept that they switched from a Mikuni to a Kleihn carb around 2000.

I would also suggest to look on ebay (or ebay & amazon stores) for a manual. I personally like the paper versions I have over the PDF computerized versions. I just can't use the mouse and keyboard with dirty/greasy hands and get away with it like I can the paper manual.

If you are in need of a certain section I can email that part to you to get you started while you look for a manual of your own. I think I already have the wiring diagram scanned into the computer if it would help you get going.

Sj.
The scan of electrical would be a great asset right now.
I am helping my son find a CDI unit for it as well as a manual.
One step ahead before a manual arrives.
I located a paper version. Last thing Iwant is the kids greasy fingers on my keybocard as well

Ok, I will send that off to you tonight when I get home. As i said before it is not for a 1998 model (I think it is 2000-2004) but they made vary few changes up until about 2004 or 2005.

I have been reading a lot of posts on here about people thinking the CDI is bad and it actually being the voltage regulator or visa-versa. There has also been some written about the magnets coming loose on the magneto of the charging system still won't function.

I will add that is you are unsure of the age or condition of the battery to replace it while you area at it. A bad battery can cause a head ache. To test it remove it fromthe machine, trickle charge (2amp) it over night and check voltage across terminals with volt meter. SHould be something around 12-13v. Let is set for about 12 hors and check it again. If it has dropped below 11V get a new one. I like to take the measurements and note terminal locations and go to Walmart. You can usually get them for about $30-$40.

Another tip if you see engine parts for a "500 Suzuki" on e bay you may buy them also since they have the same motor.

Default 1998 AC 500 4x4 info

I Think It was the 2006 model that was changed , the fuel tank was mounted in the rear in stead of up front on the vrevious yr. model's ; and the fuel tank's on the 2006 AC's have a larger capacity ( 6.5 gallons ) i don't remember what if any other change was made to the 2006 because this was my very first Arctic Cat !

But i know the 2006 AC 400 FIS 4x4 that i purchased on Feb. , 7th 2006 has the same tank size as the 2006 AC 500 FIS 4x4 ; good luck finding the parts you need and welcome to the forums there are some people here that have a great deal of knowledge and they are willing to share this knowledge with anyone for free of charge !.......
