Rack Accessories

I was wondering what type of bags or cargo carrying containers you guy use on your racks. I was wanting to get something for the front that wasn't too tall but could handle a lot. This way I could still mount some lights on the handle bars so I could see better at night.
For the rear rack I was wanting a large container/bag that could handle quite a bit a stuff. I am not sure if I should go with the canvas type bags or some of the hard platsic boxes. I mainly just go on all day trail rides and in the fall I go hunting. I was wanting to use the front container/bag to haul ropes, cahins, tire repair kits, emergency essentials, etc. The rear container/bag would haul my lunches, extra gear, or what ever else I needed.
What do you guys use and how do you like it?

I got my bag for the front at our local Wal-Mart and it works very well> I do not have a back bag because I usually put a cooler for my food and drinks on the back for regular trail riding. During hunting season I leave the back rack empty for my treestand and game if I am lucky enough to harvest. Wal-Mart also has some other atv accessories that also work well Plus it is usually cheaper. Hope This Helps Good Riding and God Bless

For the low-budget route I put a Contigo storage box on my back rack. It works good as an all-round carry-all. It was about $25, then bought some u-bolts and drilled through the bottom to attach to the rack. I believe it's on the rack in the pictures in my signature. When plowing, I put a couple of bags of rock salt in it for extra weight.

I've got an old military mortar box up front, fits the front rack perfect and is around 8" deep or so. It's a steel box, so I drilled 4 holes through it, to match up with the pre-existing holes in your front rack, works great for hauling all my recovery gear/ax/first aid kit, etc. I bought a 15" deep U-shaped rear rack bag from atvstuff.com, which is awesome for the back rack. It's very deep-at 15", and will hold damn near everything but the kitchen sink. It's made of that heavy weight carhartt material, with large heavy duty zippers all around, and even came in mossy oak breakup camo. Cost was expensive at around $70, but mine has paid for itself several times over already-definately a great bag. As for the mortar box, you may already have one, or know somebody who would be willing to part with their's. If not, I think they're around $15 or something.
Hope that helps, and Best of Luck!

Check out www.rockymountainatv.com located just a stones throw away from you in Payson. I just picked up a U-shaped mossy Oak rack bag from them on Friday. It has three seperate padded compartments, made of 600 denier nylon, and has storm flaps over the zippers. I can't remember the measurements but it holds plenty. I fit all of my recovery and safety equipment in the large compartment and still have the two smaller ones for lunch, drinks, ect.. Cost $64.99
I like bags because they usually attach with straps or velcro and can be removed pretty easyily if needed. Most hard boxes will require u-bolts which aren't really difficult but are harder than straps/velcro.
We should get together for a ride sometime. I only have 30 miles on my new machine and am itching to get out. Good luck.

I got one from ATVStuff.com for like $75. I use it more as a rear seat than anything else, but I do use the bags in it sometimes and it has a buttload of room. 3" foam cushion covers the entire rear rack with a U shaped spot for your passenger's *** in the middle.

I went down to Wal-Mart and picked up a large.. I think its called a Action Packer, bolted it up on the rear and it is a fine back rest. Big enough to put a small cooler in and still carry to much junk. Protection from the weather is fine. I have a small one on front and take my colmen stove with me often.

I've got a big plastic Rubbermaid toolbox on the back rack. I fastened some eye bolts on the sides where the handles are, and I use turnbuckles to attach it to the rack. Get the big turnbuckles that you use to tie your camper down on your truck, with the open hook on each end. Hook one end in the eye bolt and the other under the rack and just cinch it down. It comes off real easy if you need to haul other stuff. I've even got it rigged so that I can drop it down behind the rack to free up more rack space if needed.
Split some pieces of old hose and slip them over your rack first and you won't wear the paint off.
Put some of that stick-on rubber window molding around the underside of the lid and it will be completely water and dust proof. Just don't over-torque the turnbuckles or you will distort the box.
