well if its carburated then it could be a stuck float causing gas to run up into the intake and down into the cylinder and past the rings..... I would check the carb out and clean it.

The float or needle sticking, bad needle valve seat and hauling the ATV on a trailer without shutting the fuel valve off could all be possible causes.

Quite often if the needle or float is a suspect you will sometimes get fuel into the air box that runs out the little duck bill valve at the bottom OR out the overflow on the carb while the machine is sitting still.

if you are huiling it without turning off the gas that will do it. I found that out the hardway.

that hauling tip is a good one, Thx for it

Mine did the same thing, I cleaned the carb and it continued, took it apart again and discovered the rubber tip on the float valve needle was torn. When it was pulled out the rubber piece went back into position and didnt look torn until it was touched then you could see the flap of rubber hanging off. I got a new one on ebay and that fixed my problem. Easy fix!

Dave,

Was the little o-ring in the fuel valve torn or missing is that why you needed to replace it?

I ask because I was doing some maintenance on my ATV (yearly cleaning of the carb and tank) and the fuel shutoff valve would not do as described! Shut off the fuel flow. I used a pair of vice grips on the hose line and removed the tank but have not looked at it totally yet.

I remember reading that there was a little o-ring on the valve that could tear. I think that is my issue.
