could be the springs in the clutch. Need to take the springs out and measure them to make sure that they are not collapsed. Do you use oil for wet cluches in it? If you are using regular automotive oil it could cause the clutch to slip.

not sure what the specs are supposed to be for the springs but i will find out.
i do use a clutch oil and oil for the motor and starter. first gear seems to drive ok still not to the full potential of where it should be but what gets me is that it will shift through all the gears but is still stuck in first. and i say this because i can manually shift the gears and if i go to fifth i have to shift back down to get it in neutral. i have no clue what the deal is but if any one can help it would be great!

no not slipping the friction plates look good stll enough left to ensure it will catch, but will not come out of first. do you know if i would have to split the case for the clutch fork or can i get to it from the cluches side by taking out the basket?
