2000 Arctic Cat 300 4x4
Hey all,
I just bought a AC 300 and am having issues getting it to stay running. When you turn on the ignition, no lights come on and it will not electric start either. I pull started it and it ran and the electric start turns over and it ran okay but within 10 minutes, it started sputtering and died. I called Dennis Kirk and they think it may be the starter, but I am not sure and don't want to take it to a stealership to find out. I hooked it up to a battery charger and the gear light was showing neutral and headlights worked and the starter turned over. The starter didn't sound right though. I just would like to know how to narrow the problem down and fix it. Thanks for all your help.

I had a 99 300 and my lights did the same, thought it was the battery but found out after i replaced it that it was the regulator. It charges the battery and if its not working correctly then the bike will not charge, creating starting issues and no lights. it was $80.00 and mine was on the right side near the rear fender. Small black with cooling fins on it. my neighbors did the same thing and it was also the regulator.

I replaced the regulator/rectifier and it didn't seem to do anything. I bought a brand new battery and nothing when turning the key.It will pull start but only run for a little bit until all the lights go out and it's done. I don't get how it has nothing until it's hooked up to a battery charger or running. I actually replaced the regulator and put the old one back on because it didn't seem to do anything from a dead start. I want to try the started but am unsure if that is really it. I read to try and check voltage across the battery while running and it should be 13-14 v DC. I still have the new rectifier but can't believe that's it if it's dead after it's been pull started. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

It runs great!
I cannot believe guys are so ignorant...I put in a new battery and added distilled water to it and no acid! I exchanged the battery and added acid as the instructions said to, and replaced the rectifier and it runs great! Thanks for the help but you can't always tell morons to read battery instructions.
