Hey guys!!!! I'm new here. I have a 2000 Artic cat 300 4x4 that we use around our property and foe when we go drag racing. Anyway this spring the Walmart battery was dead and after charging it and running it, it still would'nt start, (had to charge it every time). Sooo I blamed it on being an old walmart battery and bought a new NAPA one. This one worked great for a long time, then one time this summer it was dead, so I charged it then it was fine for a few weeks, then dead again. So I checked the voltage while it was running and I had a little over 12 volts. I "assume" that this is low and should be around 13-14 volts? So I belive that it is not charging. Now I am an auto mechanic by trade but have never realy messed with 4 wheelers or motorcycles. I'm kinda lost when it comes to these things. I am guessing there is a voltage regulator somewhere on this thing correct?? And how do I test to see if it is bad? If not, where do i go from there? Are regulators expensive? Where is the best places to buy parts for these (Ya I know, besides Artic cat dealers?)?? Thanks for any help!!!!

 

There is another thread just a few spots down from last week about this same thing. As i stated in that one as well, I too had 1999 300 with the same issue. My voltage regulator was basically a direct short and drained the battery. i noticed it was kinda burnt by the wires going into it. I changed mine out($80 at the time) and that was it. So yes id start with checking the voltage regulator. Im not sure on how to check it though.
