08 700 efi starting like crap
#1
ok when i start it it will start up just fine, then i hit the throttle and it will die. then i turn it over and it is almost like it hydro locks and it lights will go out on instrument panel until i let off starter then it will spin over again. then it will turn over till it fires and locks up again. the other day it kept doing that about 15 times until it finally started, once it starts it runs fine but this is getting rediculous. i swear i never had any trouble with my 650 and i bought this thing and i have 140 miles on it and i have had 2 boots rip, an antifreeze leak, and now this. oh also the other day it would spin over and it kept saying efi on the instrument cluster, then i turned the key off and back on then i can try starting again. and the tps is set as the little line is still in the middle.

It's a MUDPRO recall, but is also showing up on ALL H1 EFI's. My wifey's '09 550 has a cracked boot - not thru - but I have the parts on order.
As for your hydro-loc......and gauge cluster blanking out.....CHECK your starter selenoid POS connection from the battery. Mine was loose and caused the same symptoms w/my 650H1 TRV.
The EFI error happens when you cycle the key or the run/stop switch to quickly - again the wifey's 550 - always listen for the fuel pump to cycle thru on start-up......then crank.
Another possibility for the hard starting is the tilt sensor switch at the rear taillight. If it's loose....it will sent intermittent signals to the ECM and shut off the ignition preventing start-up.
that's alls I gots
good luck.

well i tried what you said and the solenoid wire going to the starter was so loose i could turn it by hand so i tightened that up and now it turns over just fine. the problem is that it starts just fine but the second i touch the throttle it dies. now that you helped me with part of the problem it is easier to start back up but it shouldn't just die like that. tomarrow i am going to recheck my throttle position sensor.

Very old thread - from 2010 ????
As I read the opening post, it reminded me of my 2011 AC 550 EFI - when I first bought it last spring. And, no history on what previous owner used in its gas tank... Ouch!
Sometimes at cold engine or after a trailer ride, it would idle great. But when I pressed its throttle, it would die. Acted like it was an electrical problem or gas flow problem (like it was chocking out). Changed its spark plug, changed its coil wire, changed its coil. Even changed its battery. It ran ok for a bit then it would "act up" again.... One ATV trail rider told me to stop pouring SeaFoam into its gas tank and and pour some Injection cleaner into its gas tank instead. So, I bought a bottle of injection cleaner and used double ratio amount along with fresh 91 Octane gas (which is ethanol free gas). Within 1 mile down the trail, I could feel its inner engine trapped power being released. Almost like someone was inside its engine - turning up its dimmer switch. Giant Smiles. Conclusion: Its EFI injection was internally plugged and making false readings - which starved itself of gas (when one presses on its throttle). Good inner cleaning worked great. If wondering, I used "Lucas Tune Up & Fuel Injector Cleaner" - https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/27...g?v=1525532903
As a suggestion, try fresh 91 Octane gas with double recommended amount of Lucas Tune up & Fuel Injector Cleaner additive in its gas tank. Worked great for my ATV EFI's system.... Your ATV's EFI might be "gummed up" as well... Hope this helps....

Sounds like the same thing mine would do in the winter when it was below 0 or colder... It was a pain to get started and if you touched the throttle it would kick and stall... Found the easiest way to get the beast to start is just leave the throttle alone until it was good and warm... The GF had the same machine never had this issue... Valve adjustment can also make cold starting hard
