04 400 Arctic Cat Troubles
#1
New to this forum and new to the world of ATVs. A couple of winters ago, I purchased a used Honda Arctic Cat 400 with a blade to clear my driveway with. To date, that is all that I have used it for. I went to clear my driveway this morning and it fired up beautifully. (I have one of those battery monitor things on it that keeps it at a full charge and shuts off when not needed.) Near the end of the job, it started sputtering, so I turned it off, filled er up and then fired her up again with no problems. Finished clearing the snow and went to put it away in my garage. As I was pulling forward getting ready to back it up in the garage it stalled. Now it won't turn over. I push the start button on it and it doesn't even try to turn over. On my dash, I can see the back light on when the key is turned on and the lights are on when the key is on, but before, there used to be a red light over a thermometer symbol whenever the key was turned over that is no longer lit when the key is turned over. There also used to be a green light over the N symbol that would be lit when the key was over and the bike was in neutral, but even that is no longer lit. (I've made sure the bike is in neutral.) On the left handle bar with the switches, I can control the low/high beams, but the start button doesn't work and the up/down button for my winch/blade no longer works either when the key is turned over. So far, all I've done is checked to make sure the positive and negative terminals are connected tightly and they appear to be. At least I can't wiggle them around. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated and I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge with ATVs.

Thanks for the reply. When I take the seat off the bike. There is a large plastic venting shaft. If I take that off, it uncovers a box with what looks to be some type of air filter. If I take off the side panel, I can see the part that the spark plug is connected to. There is a black cord that goes from the spark plug to a box like thing ??? and there are two red cables (fuses???) attached to that. These appear to be crimped on to a wire. Is this the part that I should be looking at? How would I go about testing these fuses and/or changing them? Thanks again and sorry again for my obvious lack of know-how.

So I got the bike fixed. A fuse was blown. The fuses were under the back wheelwell (sp?) A fuse blew because there was short along one of the wires. The wires were rubbing against the frame under the handle bars for sometime causing the wire to wear through thus shorting the fuse.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
