thread revival time...Its been a while...but i figured id post my fix for it in case someone else has the same problem

in my case the starter gear shaft broke out both locating bosses...the cover one and the case half one...

there was enough meat left to drill both deeper to reach good supporting material without compromising the case or cover too much

then i bought a hardened steel shaft and cut it to fit exactly (solid one not hollow like the oem part)..it was some precision hard shaft used for for 3D printers

my electric start has been working fine ever since
