Loading System
#2
Tomd,
There are several things you can do. your quad will just run over the wheel wells and fit just fine. I really don't think you need any type of a system. However, there are companies that make a bed that sits on the rails of the truck bed. you can load two quads on these systems. The downside is the steep incline trying to load and unload a quad that high up. There are also companies that sale racks that attach into a class IV hitch. Your third option is to buy a small trailer that you can load the quad on.
you can find these companies listed in some of the ATV magazines.

I havebuilt small ramps followingthe contour of the
wheel wells with 1x6 on bottom extending to the
front of the bed so they dont slide when loading.
this allowes the wheels to roll right over the wells, they stay in place while traveling also.

I also have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma and I haul my 2001 AC500 Manual in it. The way I have found to be most effective is having the front left tire on the wheel well and setting the parking brake, then I use tie downs (front loops to rear rack and rear loops to front rack or floorboards) to keep the bike from moving forward or backwards. The front bumper is about 6 inches from the window.
The front bumper and winch are too far forward to put the wheels over the wheel wells, but I have 27" MudBugs, that may be why.
Using this method I have travelled over 1000 km with the Cat in the back and it rides really good for a 1/4 ton.
