Don't let me down on this one guys, not that you ever have before. The brake pads are toast on the rear of my 500 manual and the 400 my folks ride. I heard some noise and pulled the caliper to check it. At 250 miles they were done, just like I thought. Does anyone use the EBC brand pads? They are cheaper than the dealers pads I know that much. Will they last? I need to perform this maintance soon since there is a big ride ( 3 of us Texas boys!) coming up soon. Any suggestions would be appreciated very much. Thanks.

I've seen quite a few of you guys that have had to replace the brake pads already. I'm curious because I have almost 2,000 miles on mine and the pads are almost like new still. Are you guys using the brakes that much? Maybe on the auto's?
Does engine braking work well on the auto's?
I rarely have to use the brakes, guess that's why they're still like new. Duh! Oh well, just wondering...

I too still have plenty of pad left after over 2000 miles. I think a lot of it has to do with the type of riding being done. I don't think any ATV brake pads like or stand up well to playing in the mud. We don't have a lot of mud down in the southern part of Idaho, but friends that have mud tell me they go through brakes at a fairly good clip.
The mud we play and work in is very wet and carries a ton of sand in it to make it very gritty and coarse. It acts just like sand paper on everything including the skid plates and tires. We don't use the brakes much. The calipers just fill up with mud/sand and wear the pads steadly while you ride. I'm going to give the EBC pads a chance since they are cheaper and advertised for mud/sand use. Thanks for the input.

Hey Dakato,
I had to go and open my big mouth about brakes didn't I!! My riding was cut short today because the rear caliper seal let go. I know I said I don't use my brakes that much but I'm not riding without them. I wonder if AC has a rebuild kit or I'm gonna have to buy a new caliper.
I'll find out tomorrow I guess...
