2015 Arctic Cat XR 550 XT or 2016 Polaris Sportsman 570

I'd ride a few models that didn't have power steering to see if you really need it. Its a cool feature that makes steering effortless but many new quads aren't hard to steer without it. The non-eps Yamaha Kodiak can be had for around $6000 in most areas, basically the least expensive machine of its power and displacement you can find anywhere. Eps will generally add around $800-$1000 to the price of the machine. Its up to you to decide whether its worth the extra expense. My friend that bought the 450L DPS actually told me that he could have gotten a 500L without eps for less money but he wanted eps so his gf could easily steer it so he opted for less power and eps instead of getting the more powerful model that didn't have it.

I can do without power steering, but my wife and daughters need to be able to handle this quad, so power steering is a requirement. Kind of makes me pucker to shell out the extra dough just for power steering. That being said, the quads I've driven that do have PS are so much easier to drive, that I imagine it would be less fatiguing after a long day on the trails.

Polaris does have a new 450HO model coming out for the 2017 model year with a new 33hp 500cc prostar engine that promises to be the same price as last years model. The eps model is under $7000 retail so expect real world prices to be a bit lower. It will be the least expensive 4x4 atv with eps that you can buy. It might not be the fastest or most powerful in its class but I think it will have enough power for most.

The 2016 450HO has a little less power but its the detuned 570 engine. You might even check out your local Yamaha dealer to see if they still have any 2015 Grizzly 550 or 700 models left. If they do, you might get some pretty big discounts. One of my local dealers was selling 2015 Grizzly 700's with eps for just over $7000 earlier this year to clear inventory for the 2016 models. The 550's with eps were $6500 while they lasted. Its unlikely any 2015 models are left anywhere anymore but even if there is one, that's enough for you.

Yeah there are a couple of 2015 Arctic Cats around (been seriously considering the 550). There are 2016 Yammys and Polaris. But haven't seen an Grizzlys other than the 700. There is a 2016 700 Kodiak as well, but no power steering.
Just wondering what you guys are paying for these machines in the US. In Canada
2015 Arctic Cat Xt 550 XR EPS, $7,999
2016 Polaris Sportsman 570, $6,999
2016 Yamaha Kodiak 700. $7,999
The only one of these three with power steering is the Cat.

Basically the eps models here in the U.S. are going for about the same price as the non-eps models in Canada. There is the exchange rate between U.S and Canadian dollars but it seems that atvs simply cost more in Canada even if factor that in. Here's a Kodiak 700 with eps and camo locally here for a good price. I know that won't help you but it shows the difference in price is pretty great http://carbondale.craigslist.org/snd/5752932483.html. Here's a blue one for even less at the same dealer http://carbondale.craigslist.org/snd/5669196509.html. You can even get a free winch until the end of the month or free 18 month extended warranty on new Yamahas the ad said as well. I assume that deal should be available in Canada as well.

Yeah, pricing can vary a bit depending on where you live. The non-eps Kodiak base models were going for about $5800 U.S. The Can-Am Outlander L models are a pretty decent bargain around here too. 2016 Can-Am Outlander L 570 DPS shows a 2016 570 L DPS model for $6999 U.S. The 570 v-twin packs a pretty good punch for an entry level machine.
