I read a post the other day that said something about the CV boots and a special crimping tool costing $95.
What exactly does this tool do???
I'm curious because I just replaced all of the seals in my front differential and when it came time to put it all back together, I just used my hands to install the clamps the CV boots.
Of all of the special tools listed in the back of the service manual, I didn't see any crimping tool.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that "no" special tool was required to install new boot clamps.

For whom ever cares...

Have a good one.

well
i have mostly snap-on and craftsman tools and my wife has used a potato peeler as a philips screwdriver.
i guess you use what works and why get the expensive tool if you don't need it. lol..
i won't buy a crimping tool for that job, maybe her curling iron will do the trick.........

LOL.. Now why didn't I think of the curling iron?
I did think about her hair dryer though when I was mounting my tires.

Well AC OEM Boot retaining rings are different from the ones I saw in Dennis Kirk, which require that speacial crimper. So you can disreguard that statement.

Automotive boots use a diff clamp that requires the tool, if your useing auto boots just reuse the original clamps.

Hey Boner!

I thought that was your post. I tried to catch ya that day but just after I got connected, my pc took a big s**t!!
Anyway, got my pc back up and running and forgot who's post it was.
I hope ya didn't take it the wrong way, just didn't want others' thinking they had to have that tool. It was quite a learning experience to say the least.

Take it easy...

Ron

I saw one of those clamps that require the crimpers today. IT seems like they would be easier to install, as long as the space was not limited.

I picked up a toe shifter and gasket today. They are gonna ship me 20 spring adjustment washers, 16 shock bushings, and 8 sleeves (enough to change ALL of my shock bushings-- I didn't need them But I have extras in case I lose them), and I believe thats it.

The shifter was $20, gasket was $15, washers were $0.89 each, bushings were like $2.20 each and it totalled out to like $109.87 or something.
