I spoke with my local dealer the other day and he says AC has come out with a Bulletin regarding the aft transmission vent. It is the one that is located at the rear of the airbox under the seat.

It seems that it is suseptable to water intrusion if it facing rearward. That is the way it was originally intended to be put on. The engineers at AC have found that water may be forced into the vent by the rear tires. Thus causing belt wear and slippage. The recommendation is to loosen the clamp and turn the vent around so that the crook in it faces forward. It's really simple and it helps.

Mine faces forward now but I have heard talk of capping this vent off all together. Has anyone done this or heard of it? It seems to be overkill to have so many vents the other belt drive brands don't have but 1 intake & 1 exhaust, at least my old polaris didn't. How about some feedback on this subject?

According to local guy, he says it's okay to cap that vent off if you want. It will increase the heat in the belt housing slightly, but if you ride in mud and water it will be cooler than those that don't. You can get a cap that will fit it at Lowes or Square D. Just get a pressure plug from the plumbing dept. All you have to do is remove the vent tube and put the plug in and tighten it down. I think it uses the 1 1/2 inch size. I removed that vent housing altogether and capped it with a homemade plate sealed with RTV.

How many miles have you put on it since the mod , and have you noticed a difference in the heat on your right leg, or had any problems? I have been wanting to do this for a while but wanted some more info before going ahead with it. I've only had it for about 2 months 450 miles, so far no problems except the cat likes to drink water in the belt housing. If I can fix this it would be great. Do you have A snorkle for the belt intake, if so do you have any pics? I have been experimenting with some ideas but haven't found the right one yet. Thanks for the reply.

Mudcat,
So far I have only about 100 miles (one trail ride) since I pulled off the housing. I am snorkling the intake up through the front plastic. I have a digital camera and will try to get a few pics if it doesn't look too hokey. My only probs with my Cat has been wet belts otherwise a fine machine.
