I just had to repair my K&N for the second time in the last coupleof months. The filter rests on a support at the bottom of my airbox, as the filter is shaken and jolted through riding it has worn through the wire mesh and the paper causing some small holes to appear. I called K&N today and was told that the filter has been changed. At this point I am waiting to find out what has been changed, my feeling is it will be the diameter of the filter. If it is made slightly smaller it will not rest on the support at the bottom of the box. Has anyone else had this problem with their K&N.

I did not use the support, I was able to remove it and save it for when I run the stock air filter.

Nope, on my kids' 454 it is an aluminum support that I removed because I did'nt like the clearance it had with a new K&N filter.
It is possible that yours may different.

JKB-Yeah, unfortunately you're right. I had to replace my entire airbox around a couple hundred miles, maybe less. I got airborn then landed on a stump, breaking the entire right corner off the bottom of the box, along with the pcv valve. Both the box I removed, as well as my new airbox have that support you refer to built into the box itself. My stock AC filter even touch's it a bit, though it's on the rubber end piece, so it doesn't rub through. I wonder why they switched from the style Max refers too? Maybe it was cheaper to use plastic instead of the removeable aluminum type???

Anyway, a word of warning-the new airbox replacement does not include the rubber stopper plug thing for the pcv valve. Instead, it just leaves the spout sticking out, with a big hole allowing water to enter. I found a rubber end cap, like you would put on the bottom of a walking cane, or even on the bottom of chair legs to protect your wife's brand new floor. I believe it was around a 1/2" i.d. in size, only cost around .19 cents and has worked great with a small hose clamp. BTW-Like Boner mentioned earlier, if you've ever stood your 'Cat up on the rear rack-climbed really steep hills, etc., or even rolled the machine, pull that little plug off and see if any fluid comes out. If there is fluid in your pcv valve, it might run a little smoother once you drain it.

Sorry for the little "extra's" there, just thought I'd throw them in as they dealt with the airbox specifically.

I talked to K&N today and the change to the filter is a taper on the end, so that it no longer rests on the support in the air box. There will not be a recall, but they are replacing any that people complain about.Customer service at K&N was top notch.

I'm just gonna cut that POS support off. It keeps cutting holes in my prefilter that is on the factory fitler. I see no reason for it since the filter supports itself.
