I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THERE PLASTIC SKID PLATE?? WHAT A JOKE THAT IS !! ANY ROCK OR STUMP YOU MAY RIDE OVER PUSHES UP THE PLASTIC SKID PLATE UNTIL IT HITS THE FRAME CROSS MEMBER. I HAVE MADE AN ALUMINUM PLATE THAT I SCREWED INTO THE ORIGINAL MOUNTS THAT WILL SAVE MY FRAME FROM BEING BENT ..ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE APPRIECIATED

WELL I GUESS I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO DONT LIKE THE PLASTIC SKID PLATE.MY ONLY PROBLEM WAS THA IT WAS GIVING UP AND LETTING THINGS HIT THE CROSS MEMBER WHERE THE BACK OF THE MOTOR IS SECURED.IT NEVER DID BREAK OR ANYTHING.I BET IF YOU CHECKED YOURS OUT IT WOULD BE BENT TOO..THANKS DAVE

It's not a joke. That plastic skid plate is one tough son of a gun. I've had mine over rocks, stumps and just general garbage that you find out on the trail and it gets scratched but it holds up very well. Not a single incident with mine in 16 months and over 3000 miles.

Actually I love that plastic skid plate on my '00 'Cat. I've literally beat the hell out of this thing, dragging over huge logs, rocks, stumps, you name it, while it does get a few dings and scratches, it has never cracked, broke loose or dented at all. The thing is damn near bullet proof, and slides very well over anything you need to cross. I didn't think they changed them for '01-at least on the ones I've seen. I'm very surprised to hear you're having trouble with yours.

Good luck with the new metal fabrication, hope that works better for ya,

Mike

That skid plate is prety tough. I use it all the time to slide over rocks and trees or to control a slide off a ledge or into a creek. Lots of scratches and scrapes but tough as nails. I've even run into a few stumps head on and had no excessive damage. People hear the word plastic and I think they believe it is a plastic liike the fenders and not a thick fiber reinforced piece like it really is.
