List your Cat's problems, past & present

I have a 98 500 manual. almost 5,000 mil.

only 2nd set of brakes almost $100

rear barring on right side $60

front ball joints $60

burned out fan motor $120

all of it caused by playing in the water to much, no manufacture problems

I seen this on another form and it seem to work well for them, it mite help by giving posable problems, or just things to watch out for.

now I have a crack in one of the motor gaskets, caused by hitting a rock, bent the frame. did get over the rock.

2000 500 auto. 3400 approximately

I've had to replace the brake light bulb. It burnt out. They should last forever (J/K).

I broke two speedometers Once when my wife rolled it and once by a branch that being winched when a limb snapped off and hit it.

Other than that nothing, nada, zilch, zip.

Two ripped CV boots both on right rear. Loose battery connection once. Frozen throttle cable, -25 temp. Kinked fuel tank vent line. All I can think of.

I have a 2000 500 auto and the only problems I have had are:

* Grass wrapped around the rear drive shaft and eventually caused a tear in one of the seals. It began to leak oil. Cat dealer fixed under warranty.
* Brakes constantly squeak, but they worked fine until last weekend when my friend drove about a mile with the brakes locked on. The temp light came on, so he shut it off and got off. As soon as he did, the left front brake line blew off the valve and drained the brake fluid. The hose then rested on the brake disc and caught on fire because the disc was so hot. I am not sure if they will cover this under the extended warranty!

So, I guess there were no problems with the bike itself, just the riders!

My first real problem was the shift cable bracket breaking off the frame on the shift handle end of the cable. Just happened last weekend. My master cylinder has been leaking since it was new, just never got around to fixing it. It is the black metal cylinder, it leaks when the brakes are locked on. Makes a mess on the fender & ate some stickers up.

Other than that, great machine, starts every time, no choke necessary.

01 400 4X4 with 860 miles. No problems. other than a pinched gas vent hose. I am feeling a slight play in the steering column but I am sure that it's just coming with some wear. The rear manual brake needs to be adjusted and my brakes squeak a lot. Other than that I am totally happy with the quad.
On my last ride I ran over a stick and it fliped up, ripped through the mud guard and smacked my in the shin. I was wearing my riding boots so the only thing hurt was my pride and a nice hole in the mud guards.

I have 800 miles on mine. The pinion seal on the rear driveshaft leaked and had to be replaced when it was 8 months old. The carb wasn't dialed in well when it was new - too rich, fouled a couple of plugs. Other than that, it has been trouble free.
