The bulls are bugling!!!

I got my first bull yesterday!!!!!!!! I was able to bugle him in, and mix in a little cow calling. He was within about 15 yards when I shot, went down pretty quickly with a double-lung shot. He was a honest 6x6 (7x7 if you count small points, about 1 1/2" long), though only medium in size. First time I've gotten one to respond to the bugle, it sure is a impressive sound when things start getting up close and personnal. Was thinking it was time to bug out and wait till rifle season, the bow was feeling a little inadequate at the time, thank you very much.
Weather was warm and I was busting my butt to get him gutted and skinned. Headed home to get some help and the dirt bike. Sure wish I currently owned a ATV, life would have been much better! Quartered and bagged the meat last night, finished hauling the last 2 quarters this morning.
OK, time for a nap. Very sore and tired right now, but real happy.

Congrats Bri. Did you get him up the Cda river? I dont archery hunt any more so I'm waiting for rifle season. I did go riding yesterday and shot 4 blue grouse. Not really much of a comparison to a 6x6 bull. Better go see Mike at Cda polaris and get yourself an atv.

Hi xplorer, no I wasn't up the CDA river this time, a little further west, by 4th of July pass. I was up the river a couple of weeks ago, and got into a lot of sign. Unfortunatly, much of the area up there that I have stumbled around is is very thick and miserable to hunt. I always seem to find the bad spots. There was nicer terrain where I ended up, but till I stumbled into this guy, I had heard no bugling.
After packing this guy out, I'm thinking I may want to go after grouse instead! Do you have any good recepies for them? And what do you shoot them with-shotgun or .22?
Good luck during rifle season!

Bri, I use a 12ga. I like to throw my birds in a gallon zip lock bag with a bottle of Italian dressing overnight, then BBQ. I also like to throw them in a crock pot with cream of chicken soup for a few hours. I have hunted the pass alot myself, mostly during deer season. Some nice area up there.

Brian-
Sorry didn't reply sooner-been extremely busy, running around like a damn chicken with my head cut off lately! Anyway, CONGRATS ON YOUR FIRST BULL MAN! I'm very happy for ya, that's awesome! Did you happen to take any pictures? If ya did, would love to see them! I was out scouting for deer over the weekend, found a few nice mulies, but nothing like -was it BigDCRed has?-down in Utah-those things are huge! Season's coming up real quick here, and I'm itching like crazy! Deer opens on the 13th, then elk on the 27th, I CAN'T WAIT!
Anyway, just wanted to say Congrats, glad to hear it worked out so well for you!

How do I do this so it links directly, without the cut and paste action.

NICE BULL! Man, that must be an awesome feeling to take your first big boy like that with a bow, I can only imagine-nice job man! So do you have the spot in your living room picked out yet??? -or, should I say have you asked the wife if she'd mind??? heh heh heh
Anyway, thanks for the pics there, that is great! As for the clickable link thing, Boner told me how to do that a long time ago, then my computer crashed and I lost the directions. Maybe you can email him or something, or private message deal, he's good with this stuff.
Best of Luck,
Mike
