TexasCat- I didn't look in my Cabela's to check 'em out, but one of the best I've found is a plastic mag that fits both the Mini-14 and the AR-15. if you can find'em , they are worth it in my opinion. ( As an interesting tidbit, I paid $120.00 for my Mini many moons ago- many, many moons ago...)

I live within driving distance of a Cabela's store, so don't check out the catalog much, I find it MUCH better to look things over in person.
Anyway, the last time I was checking out Mini-14 mags, they had 3 kinds, a plastic, a blued metal one, and another that was either nickel plated or stainless. This has been a while, as I got a thirty rounder, one each, blued & nickel for under $25 with tax. I would suspect they are made of different materials or have a different finish.
My experience was USA mags are pretty good, Precision mags are OK, triple K mags not as good. The triple K are sturdy, but the ones I have seen usually have a burr or something on the feed lips you have to file off before they work reliably. My brother stumbled upon a used Ruger 30 rounder at a police-surplus acution (they are required to replace the mags every so often regardless of wear) and I can say, IF you can find one, they are worth twice what any other one would be, from what I have seen. Finding one may be the hard part, though.

hey i found two 30 rnd mags from usa magazines for 23.95 each. one feeds better than the other but with a little work i can make them perform like they are supposed to. i had a scope mounted on the mini but i took it off b/c i wanted a gun that i could kick around and mount on my cat so i could go ride somewhere armed to the teeth without worrying about knocking it off zero. hell i carry 60 rounds of ammo, why do i have to have it shooting moa if can just saturate the target with 60 burning slugs.
as always, thanks for the assistance.
