Where are the AC dealers are installing the isolating relay for the winches....at least I assume they are using them?

These units require a power source (auxillary) to open the unit to allow power to get to the winch. They are used on vehicles pulling trailers, so that the trailer unit cannot kill the battery on the tow vehilce when the vehicle is shut off.

On most Honda's, this is located under the seat adjacent to the battery box. I could put it in the battery box on my Arctic Cat but it is a tight fit. I did see one installed on the outside of the battery box, under the machine. This is very easy, but I am not sure I want a live connection out there.

Want do you think guys. Anyone got their quad handy that could take a quick peek for me? Thanks.

If you are talking about the selonoid, it goes on the back side of the battery box. If you take your battery out there are 2 holes in the plasticon the back side, you put the mounting bracket through these holes. Then the selonoid on the outside. There is a connector along the frame tube that you just plug into to get power. This is assuming you are installing the Arctic Cat (warn 2500) winch kit, it is complete with switch that mounts on the handle bar under starter switch. Also has plug in type connectors. The instructions are very good too, if you didn't get any you may need to get ahold of your dealer. It took me about 1.5 hours to install mine, no need to worry about the selonoid being outside it is a marine grade product. If you need more I can take some pics for you, or someone may be able to scan the instructions and post them.

Thanks for the reply Mudcat.

No, I did not get the 2500 Warn winch. I had a fairly new 1500 Superwinch on my old quad that I decided to keep. I would rather have had the Warn, but I am sure I would have had to give the old Superwinch away. Sooo, I am stuck with it for now.

I will look for the connection you mentioned. Actually, if someone has the instructions they might help...my dealer is 4 hours away.

Thanks again.

They won't be anywhere close, I don't think. You may be able to use the mounting holes on the back of the battery box, and the power lead under the seat along the frame tube(orange I think) throttle side. You still have to use the battery to hook up the heavy power leads. I don't have a scanner so I can't post them for you. It is pretty simple though. Good luck.
