Does anyone know how to lean out or richen the carb? My friend said the Honda's have a screw on the carb so that you can do this? The reason I want to do this is because my quad is running like crap after I make it work for about 1 or 2 minutes. I pulled the plug last night and the plug is pitch black like coal. It wasn't wet or anything. So my friend says its to rich. So how do I adjust the carb guys? Thanks.

If you're doing high spped riding and it's black,I think the only way your going to get it lean enough to run is to change the main jet. If it's slow speed then It's not the main jet, but the lowspeed jet. You can lean out the low speed jet by turning it in. If you do this, do it one half turn at a time.

Where do I find the low speed jet? I'm not doing any fast riding, since the motor revves super high at 40+ mph. The kind of ridding I do is driving in deep snow and the quad is in second gear, spinning like mad and revving fairly high, like 3/4 throttle. My friend told me to just leave it for now and see what happens when I get more miles on it.

Also, how does your choke on your quad work? With my choke its strange, it does nothing unless its pushed all the way down to the bottom and then you need to turn it off after that. That is really weird, that its either on or off. I put the choke half way and it does nothing. All other chokes make the quad revv higher, not this one. All other quads(not sure about honda) have a normal choke that is either on or off or in between on or off.

Thanks everyone.

My choke is either on or off the same as yours. If I use the choke to start the machine it starts doesn't rev and if i leave it on too long the engine dies. There is no half way on mine either.

It sounds like you need to change the main jet if you're running at 3/4 throttle in snow. The main jet is located in the float bowl. There are 2 jets in the float bowl and the main jet is the one that is screwed into the center. It is screwed into what appears to be a brass nut. I think you need to go down about 1 or 2 sizes. I hope more people will give you there opinions, this one is just mine.

Can I change the jets without taking the carb apart? Is that the brass screw your talking about? If it is where abouts on the carb can I find it? Thanks.

The carb has to be removed and the float bowl taken off. The main jet is inside the float bowl on the carb main body. Make sure you don't lose the float retaining pin.

Do a search of the Arctic Cat forum under the title of "300 or 400". That is where the complete jet change instructions are posted. Or you can cut and paste the following link.
