winch problems
#1
Anyone know where I can find some diagrams of the Warn 1500 winch schematics? I was hung up on a log the other day and my winch would not pull me off. I had to string ALL the cable out to a tree 50ft. away before it would just barely pull me off. I was amazed that it wouldn't do it from 10ft. away.
I'm thinking of pulling it apart and have no idea as to what I will find. Is this an easy job or will I definetely (sp?) need some schematics?
thanx in advance,
shmoky

shmoky, I couldn't find any Warn diagrams, but here is a link to a generic winch 1500lbs...

Winches are normally rated as rolling loasd (1500 lb. rolling load). You might be able to find the dead lift rating, which will be much less. Also, the closer to the bottom of the cable spool you get the more rotational torque you will have.

A winch only has it rated pull with a single wrap. As the diameter of the cable ( around the drum ) increases the pulling power decreases. If you use a ****** block you can double the power of the winch. I guess if you were to use a block and tackle type hookup you could move anything. It's all physics. Someone once said " Give me a place to stand and a pole long enough and I can move the earth". When it comes to winches, bigger is better. There is also some info about the angle of pull and what you are pulling through. A 600lb. ATV going up a 20 % incline on grass would and 25%. The same ATV, 20% incline going through mud might increase it 80 %.
In closing, my 2500lb Warn was the best investment I have ever made.
