Hey buds,

As anyone noticed on their Cats, with ACT Rear ends, if you push the rear side to side the rims make a bucking sound? I do on my 375. My wife's 300 doesn't but she has different rims.

Thanks,
SargentHP

I have heard people talking about how the new rims for the 2002 models are very weak. Maybe arctic cat will see this as a flaw and give a recall notice. When you say bucking, what do you mean? Do you mean a metal on metal sound? If so maybe its not the rims at all and some free play somewhere making that sound?

It is like if you slightly squeeze and release a pop can.

Doesn't sound to healthy. I don't have access to a 2002 ACT model so I don't know if I can help you. I'm sure the other guys and gals here with ACT will help you out.

I did notice that the rims are different between the ACT and IRS. Personally I liked the rims better on the IRS. I am wondering if they are stronger rims.

I don't think they are. A few people have said they flex to much. I think I bent my rim already, its not the rims fault though. I got into an accident with my truck 6 months back and my quad was in the box.

Are you sure it is your rims making the sound? When I shake mine from side to side it makes a sound also but not from the rims. The Act has axles like a 3/4 or 1 ton truck , they are full floating axles. This means the axle doesn't support any vehicle weight, it just has the job of transfering drive power to the wheel. The axle tube supports the weight of the vehicle. When you move it from side to side you will have a little bit of play because they use ball bearings instead of tapered roller bearings. This may be what you are hearing, or it could be the brake pads hitting the rotor with the slight side way motion. Try aplying the brakes and doing the same test don't forget the foot brake. I doubt it is the rims I have beat mine to #### and they haven't even bent. But you never know with out seeing for your self.

Hey mudcat47537,

You are right. I took mine in sense it is still under warranty. They said that it is the shaft sliding back and forth and it is well with in specs. I was just getting a "reverb" from the rims.

Thanks!
