What is a ball joint? Can someone tell me where it is on the quad? I have a rough idea but I need to know so that I can check to see if thats what broke on my 500i. My dealer's mechanic told me this may have caused my axle to pop out. Thanks.

I found the ball joint on the blow up diagram, it didn't cause my problem. There aren't any ball joints on the rear, dumb mechanic.

A ball joint is what holds your spindle on your control arm on the front end usually you will have an upper and a lower on each side.

I've been following your posts here since you got your AC. I'm sorry to hear about your problems, which I have followed with interest (as a fellow 500i owner). I hope you get this AC fixed real soon and get plenty of miles out of it. I wouldnt want to see a spirited AC owner like yourself get 'soured' due to an unfortunate breakdown and the subsequent hassle of the repair. You've certainly got your work cut out for you on this one - glad it's not me! But if I do remember correctly, I saw plenty of pics of that quad in deep water/mud/sand, and it looked like you had oversized tires on it. I'm not trying to ridicule or sharpshoot or anything like that but I just dont want the anti-AC crowd to jump on us because you had an unfortunate break. I still think that AC's are among (if not the) toughest quads out there. Try doing that repair job on a Grizzly - you can barely see in there due to all the plastic covering! Good Luck :-)

I'll give the cat one more chance, if it breaks I'm going back to a solid axle.

I'm also really thinking about selling these big tires and rims. I think I might goto a Titan 589 on some light weight rims.

I wish that I could afford some of the Matttacks. Now I wonder what kind of problems they would cause or would they alliviete (?) some of the problems BB has been having. I think if they work correctly they may be the best thing because they give you 4 more inches of ground clearance, but lower your center of gravity. They are also lightweight so they may not put all of the stress on the CVs that normal oversize tires do??? hmm just food for thought. You mean those track things? Those are very very heavy and cost an arm, a leg and a kidney. I looked into those, they would be fun but they rob way to much power from the cat.

If the Mattracks raise your quad 4 inches, but at the same time lower your COG, then that means that there is a LOT of weight to those things...But they sure do look cool...I'd have to question the long-term durability of the setup, though. Definitely for the guy who has everything...

The ball joint is what connects the A-Arms to the "hub" of your front tires. There is an upper and lower ball joint on each side. You can find it by turning your front tires and it is the connecting part between the parts that turn with your wheels and the A-Arms (where your shocks are connected to) that doesn't turn with your wheels.
