2002 500I OVERHEATING PROBLEM
#1
First excuse my english(Quebec rider)Can someone help me, i think my cat is overheating last weekend i went out riding and suddenly i lost all power going up a little hill, i almost had to push the cat to make it up, 10 to 15 mph max with a lot of backfire. i stop for about 20 minutes, when i resume everything was fine for another 20 minute then samething again. the fan was not running when i stop the first time andthe light never came on. My dealer said it was the fire so they changed it, but same thing happen again this weekend. I really believe that my fan doesnt work all the time i know that on the 2002 they are not like the 2001(always running), when is that %^$#%&^*^ fan is suppose to kick in, is there a thermostat, did anyone bypass it, will it hurt the cat if i bypass the thermostat so the fan run all the time.........
THANK GUYS.....

It's not an overheat problem, it is most likely your carb vent tube is pinched closed. Remove the seat and looked to see if the tube is being pinched by the seat or air intake, also look at were the hose comes off the carb and make sure it's not kinked.
P.S. The fan switches on at 190f (88c). Older bikes like the 454 had fan switches that ran MUCH hotter, on at 239f (115c)
