Shifting on the go
#2
Its ok if you do it resonably from high to low and you can do it without a single problem from low to high.
When you go from high to low, slack off the throttle in any gear and let it roll, now when it starts to slow down enough to the point where you would need to shift down to keep going, thats when you move the range selector from high to low. High to low is alot more dangerous than low to high but it can be done if done correctly.
Also, same thing applies to 4x4. Do not engage it when your back tires are spinning but you can do it any speed, just don't be spinning those back tires. The quad will take it but you stand the chance of tearing a u joint on you drive shaft or your front diff might die on you.
Anything else?
Oh and its OK to drive a manual tranny quad all day without having to worry about having it in low range if you going to be slow driving. Only belt driven quads need to worry about that problem. I seen someone ask about this on a different thread somewhere so I decided to post it here.
Long post, bed time.
PS: Forgot to say, if you have manual tranny quad and your changing your range selector from high to low then I have a little trick for you.
Pull up on your shifter and hold it up. Now this will put your quad in a neutral state, something like a clutch on a sport quad. Now move your range selector from high to low and then let off the on gear selector. You can either pull up or shift down, either way acts as a neutral. Give it a shot and only do this at low speeds until you know what you are doing. I only recommend change from high to low a very low speeds.
This post just got longer. hehe
