AC400 4x4
I have noticed the last couple of times that I been riding that when the water gets deep the fan blades start hitting the water and making a splashing noise. Has anyone got some experiance in deep water. My concern is that the electric fan motor will short and burn out.Or overload due the resistance created by the water.

Regards Jim

It will blow the fuse before it burns out the motor. I have had it happen before and now I carry extra fuses along.

I had my 99 model rewired like the 2000 model so I could have the fan on all the time. What I did is install a switch that allows me to turn the fan off for deep water.

I have a 99 400 4X and have been through a lot of water with my machine. I haven't had any problems with the fan, but I find that the stupid headlights and the taillight aren't water proof and fill up with water. If the water splashes on the bulb when it is on it will burn out.

Last week end I was in water nearly up to the seat. Well-not so much water, more like a thin soupy mud with lots of grass, weeds and the like mixed in. I was with 8 other machines and when every one made it through this 100 yard long hole, I noticed my fan wasn't running. I reached up into the fan area and removed a big clump of grass, mud, and other debris. The fan spun freely by hand but still didn't run when I turned on the key. I checked the fuse, sure enough, fuse was blown. Swapped out the fuse with the accessory fuse (both 15 amp) and problem was solved. Now I carry spare fuses and and thinking of installing a switch to stop the fan before I get into anymore of natures deep, mixed gumbo, soup. I see posted here someone already did that, great idea.
