I have my winch solenoid mounted in the battery compartment. I needed some wrenches (to work on a Polaris) this weekend and accidently bumped against it. It was too hot to touch. I don't think it should be hot? Especially when it is only used as a contactor. The winch seems to work fine. Might have to wire in a separate switch to control the solenoid, has anybody else noticed this, I have asked around a little and nobody seems to know, no one ever checks.

Well maybe you should swap your wrenches for wench's like the the Polaris boys do. You then wouldn't have to worry about bumping you solenoid.
Sorry, can't help, but couldn't resist.

I have had some problems with my solenoid. In the winter it worked erattically, which was a real pain with a blade. I don't know if the problem was moisture trapped inside and freezing or what. But the problem has cleared up now and it works fine. Has anyone noticed problems with the terminals inside the switch really burning. I took my switch apart and the terminals were really burnt, so I sanded them down and they are fine for now, but every time you turn on the switch you can hear them arc for a second.
