The front diff can be modified to have three positions on the shifter 2wd, regular 4x4 limited slip and full 4 wheel lock. This is just a simple mod to the shift lever that takes about 30 minutes to do. But it is only on the 01 and earlier 250 and 300 Cats.

I modified the shifter by adding a short piece of 1in. square tubing to the heel part of the shifter in order to make the angel that your foot rests on it better. This works very well for my wifes smaller foot. And yes I modified the front dif. to lock up and it is easy to do and it does steer very bad when locked up ( kind of like a Honda does all the time). It will get you out of a tight spot, but you need to keep the speed down when you have it locked.

Unfortunately it is only the 2001 and older 250/300 that you can modify the front dif. on

01 AC 250 4x4 here and it pulls anything, never breaks (rolled it twice, sunk it in water 4 feet deep, buried it about 30 times in the snow) and it still runs like its new, we beat on it and go as fast as it can all the time and jump it and go to gravel pits and still runs every day, needs new tires (stock ones suck ***) but its the best utility 250 out there!

I have had my 98 AC 300 4x4 for 2 years now and i would not trade it for anything. when i first got it i thought it was to slow. then i did the locker mod to it and gave it a lift kit this helped out allot in the mud. but the best thing that has happend to it was when i put the Outlaws all the way around. those tires made the machine into a really awesome mud crawler. when i went moose hunting this year i got allot of compliments on the tires, but the 300 really shined when i pushed a 600 griz with 27" blackwaters out of a mud hole and then drove right on through. at the end of the hunt every one was impressed with my "little" 300. last year when the 400 and 500 i came out i was very tempted to trade it in but now that i look back i am glad i still have my 300. the 250 and 300 may seem small compaired to the 500,600 and 700's but they still are able to keep up.

for my lift kit i made some spacers and put them under my springs. it gave me about an 1.5" of extra lift. it worked for me and best of all it was free.

How thick did you make your spacers?

i found an old mud flap off a dump truck and cut mt spacers out of it. my front spacer i made 3/8" and the back one is almost 1/2". some people have used plastic pipe ( like for natural gas, it has thick walls )
