2002 500I cat just died
I need your help guys; I went to start the cat today it cranks over for a second then nothing. The light are out, no power on the neutral light everything is dead. I check all the fuses under the seat they are all good I also check the main 30 amps fuse under the fender that also good, I put a screwdriver across the starter solenoid, the bike crank over just fine but wont start, the battery has lots of power over 12 volts. I check all the connection but I cant find anything wrong with it. Did I miss a fusible link somewhere? Is there a place I could find a wiring diagram somewhere on the net. I need help.

Do you have a winch installed? If so.. check the wiring harness connections in and around the steering column. When a winch is installed the connections around the steering column may have been disconnected to aid in running the wires up to the key. I had a similar problem as you only the bike would die when i turned to the left. Seems the connections were snapped back together properly, turnin the handlebars would move the harness just enough to break the contacts and the bike would die on the spot, turn the wheels to the right and she would fire right back up. Yours may be a similar problem in that the connections may not be properly snapped together.

THUD YOU ARE THE MAN. Well this morning before I went to work I tried what you said, first I turned the key on, turned the handlebar to the left, nothing, then when I turned them to the right, well, well, the cat woke up. All my lights came on, I hit the start button, the kitty was cured. All I got left to do now is find the connector but that's only a minor problem now.
Thanks alot for your help, I really appreciated it, you saved me lots of money just before Christmas.
P.S: See guys this forum really works.
Thank: Slowcat....
