I was curious what type of fuel/octane rating each of you use for various types of trail riding.
I think that AC recommends 87 octane, but what do you all use and why.
Is the higher octane worth the extra cost?
Do you HONESTLY see any difference in performance?

With 87 octane my cat runs cooler, but with 93 octane it goes about 3 mph faster but runs hotter.

Winston, the Artic Cats do seem to prefer a higher octane than 87. I noticed a power difference in between 87 octane and 89 octane. I haven't even tried 93 yet.

I've always used 93 octane so I don't know what the difference would be. I figure I'd just like to run with the best gas I can get. It costs more but it's not like I'm filling a 25 gallon tank!

Thanks for both the question, and the answers. I ran the first tank through with the regular 87 that the dealer filled it with, but grabbed the premium stuff (93 octane) as I was filling the truck. The manual recommends 87, and I'm not sure if it was just me, but my 'Cat did seem a little "peppier" with the 93, so I've been running it since. Hope it won't hurt anything.

being a firm beliver in highlifter I go with the 97 octane with 107 boost, you can tell a great deal of diffrence in the responce time as well as the top speed and also in a smother idle.

Hey BigCat:
How's the 'Cat doing lately? Any new mods? I just made a new set of headlight guards for my dad's 'Cat, as mine has had them for a while now. Also made a set of extended hitches for both 'Cat's over the weekend. Now, I can leave the 2" ball on, and still have an extra tongue with 5/8" hole for towing a drop-pin type trailer, or hook up the clevis hooks, ****** block, etc. Works out great, as I drove the suburban down to the end of the street, then towed it back with the 'Cat. Did great.

Also, I know you've had good luck with H.L., but what did they have to say about the octane rating? Just curious about the 107 boost, and is it worth the money. Their must be some reason for it. How are the bugs holding up?

Dan said that all of the project ATV's that they have all use the 107 octane boost, In the Monster 550 it has been running it for over two years without fouling out a plug, Also the higher octane burns more completly, and leaves less residue.

As for mods, I went to New Orleans this past weekend so I sent the racks to get Rino-coated...It is awsome, they are not near as slippery and it gives them a more rugged look,,,Im not to wild on the gloss look on the cat. It was well worth the 15 dollars. I'm hopeing to get my Daimond plate skidplate sometime next week.

My indicator lights are on the frits again,,,I need to have them replaced when the 2001 come out they are suposed to have fixed the problem.
