Default Shifter Linkage Woes

Just an FYI to all you Cat owners:
If you own a pre 2002 250 or 300 it has a Cable shifter linkage. Mine stretched and jammed the transmission between gears, and almost trashed the engine, because the engine and tranny are all one oil reservoir on a 250 or 300. I had it at the Cat mechanic for three weeks, they got it unjammed, but couldn't figure out what was wrong, so they just sent it home. I got it home and couldn't even get it off the truck, because it wouldn't shift. Brilliant service guys in Peterborough eh? I found the problem, and had to wait another two weeks for a new $160 cable to fix the problem.
If this ever happens to you do not buy a Cable for your year of ATV!!! Make the dealer order you a Linkage of a 2002 or newer...it is not a cable, it is a solid linkage...cheaper...and much better design. I only wish I had found this out before I replaced my cable.

PS...If you are from Ontario, never ever take your ATV to Korpi's in Peterborough!!!!!

Yes it is a bolt on, no mod installation, not sure of an exact price, but it is less that $160 canadian and installs in 20 minutes.

Thanks for the info Cancat.

There are no dealers around me, so I need to order it on line. Would you happen to know what part numbers I need to order?

Thank you.

RotaryDude,

You have a dealer in Tracy (Travl'n Toys, ph 209-833-9111). Or order from www.brownsleisureworld.com, I get stuff from them all the time. Takes about two weeks (from Canada).

Thanks Doc,

I have not tried the folks in Tracy, how are they? Are they knowledgable?

I tried to get a hold of a dealer in Suison city (supposed to be closer to me!), they were totally clueless.... they kept on saying they have things on order for me and it would arrive in a couple of weeks. I think it has been 4 months now!!! I have given up on them.

I did this to my 01 300 4x4. I replaced the foot shifter,#0502-253, linkage#0502-256 and bushing#0432-091. I think this cost me about 65.00 US. It shifts somwhat better but my cable had not gone bad yet. I may do this to my wifes 300 also.
