You wouldnt believ how many people have told me "dont use your winch unless you have to its the first to go" Well no kidding. If you take care of it and clean it it will last at least the one on my 300 has. now the one on my 425 polaris did not,but this is where i learned

I had 2 of them lock up on me (full of mud). Some guys on the trail one day told me that they weren't sealed. I started mounting them on the front rack. It keeps them clean and dry but when you pull someone else out of the mud it pulls the rearend off the ground. Tries to flip over. Works fine for self-winching.
I don't really like the factory AC winch mount. It's kind of ugly.

No, it won't bend the rack on a 450. I had a Warn 2000 on my 02' 450ES mounted on the rack. The rack on the Foreman is pretty strong. I pulled myself and several other people out of mudholes without bending anything. Was your friend pulling you out taking a running start and yanking? Remeber, the winch is a steady solid pull. I even used a ****** block and butted up against a tree to pull out a couple of really bad stucks. When you use the block it doubles the capacity.

Can you pack the winch full of grease?? will it make cleaning it last longer?
Since we're talking about winches, my uncle has a big bear, with a Warn winch (2000lb) and i can hold the cable while he is winching it in and the gears just grind and it doesn't pull the line in. I've been told that the nylon gears in there need to be replaced every couple of years. Is this that hard or what??

The gears are full of grease inside the housing. The problem is after riding in rack deep mud and water over a period of time there is nothing left of the grease. I made a mounting plate for the winch on the 450. I used a peice of 1/4 flat steel a little bigger than the winch. That maybe why I never bent the rack.
I had a similar problem with mine not pulling very strong. The gearset under power are not nylon by the way. Mine turned out to be the brushes were full of mud. After cleaning them out it pulled like new again.
