Default help on 250 Artic Cat

Hey, my cousin just got a Artic Cat 250, 2003 manuel trans. and he will drive it and i would die on him and he can't get it to shift down into neutral to startit again without pushing it backwards. Does anyone know a solution to this so that it won't die neither will it lock up in 1st gear cause this never has happened to me on my ATV. Thanks

Default help on 250 Artic Cat

I had trouble shifting once on my 2003 250. Turned out it was a loose locking nut at the end of the metal rod that goes from the tranny to the shifter. Don't know about the stalling.

Stalling could be a number of things. Does it idle properly after it warms up? Does it stall when riding or does it stall when he is stopped? Need more info.

I would check the linkage rod and make sure everything is tight. Also sometimes when you stop there is still presser against the gears so you have to rock it a bit to get it out of gear.

If you still have warranty...Take it in.

Well it it stalls when he stops sometimes or like if he is about to go up a tiny hill that a 90cc could probably make and I know it's not that sorry. And when it gets stuck in first gear is usually when it stalls and sometimes right before he puts it in reverse. Thanks alot for your help.

I had to adjust the idle several times to get it right on my daughters 250. It also kept cutting out. It gets better and better as it gets more mileage on it. Bought it in December of 2002 so it only has about 150 miles on it so far. It is very cold blooded compared to the other cats we have, not sure if its the temperment of the 250 or if it will get better after breakin? Guess I will wait and see.
