This week a reader asks if water in the exhaust means big trouble-

I like to drive halfway up the stairs of my back porch after I give my ATV a shower. It drains water out the back of the frame and could help if water was in the exhaust too.

A lot of mufflers have a bolt on the bottom to let debris out every so often. Couldn't hurt to take the bolt off and run to see if any water comes out.

I forgot all about the clean-out hole in the muffler. Sometimes it will blow a little carbon out if the bolt isn't rusted in place.

A buddy of mine used to use his winch to lift his machine up in the air to clean out underneath.

That would sure drain the water out. I don't have anything to winch mine up to, but hung a different Sportsman 500 in a tree by its winch, somewhere else. I couldn't leave it up there long because gas was leaking out of the vent. We flipped a friend's Sportsman 335 up on its tail to work on. He broke a front A-arm so he took it off and found some guy to weld it back together.
