My 82' came to me with a 300 kit. It was really clapped out. I got the original 250 stuff with it and put it back to stock.

You can still get parts but you gotta search. I was thinking of putting the 300 back on. I found everything I needed NOS at several different dealers. So as long as nuthin got thrown out over the years you should be good.

I bought a 84' back in 84. Brand new from the dealer. I had nuthin but problems with it.

I brought it home (brand new). Unloaded it, started it, warmed it up and took off slowly. It siezed when I got in 3rd gear.

Dealer fixed it under warranty. I had problems with the frame cracking too.

Now that I'm older and wiser (?) I think it had an air leak at the crank seal behind the mag.

yea thats a very common thing that happens to these expesialy when thay sit or are newly rebuilt. frame cracking is common too because its cheap light wieght metal. mine was welded once and has never been a problim since.

There is a piston and rings for the 300R kit for an 83/84 250R on Ebay now. Here is the link:

Good luck...

i own 3 250r's. and im only 16, i have an 84, 85, and 86. My 86 is the second fastest there is a custon made pipe and silencer on it. My 85 is my baby, completely stock it is beutiful, but suprisingly my 84 blows em all away. My 84 had DG pipe and silencer, jet kit, port and polished to all get out, stock gearing and stock cylinder bore. Any way to get to my piont my cylinder sleeve in the 84, apice broke off and messed up my piston and rings, i figure there was an imperfectoin in the sleeve, i just wanted to know where you can get a new sleeve for it, a stock one

hey man i would try la sleeve they miht cost a little but they can make sleeves for anything. now you said you 250r is a 84 and it faster than a 85 or 86 ??? thats kinda hard to believe but i guess its possible. are you sure it tops out faster because a 85 has more top end because of course it as 6 gears and a 84 has only 5. i know that mine gets beat up pretty good by the 6th gear in a banshee but ive seen 85rs kill banshees. are your other rs stock
