Default Carb Bowl Seal

Does anyone have a trick or idea for forming or using the O-ring gasket they give you in the rbld kits. I have tried making them work but can't seem get them to stay in the groove long enough to bolt the bowl on. I just end up reusing my old ones. Thanks for any help.

I use something sticky like "Fuel Lube" to hold it in place and a very small screwdriver to adjust it as the bowl goes on.
I also have seen people glue it to the float bowl groove.

Use the OE gasket set. I've found the aftermarket carb rebuild kits to be crap. I wouldn't use any of the ones I've seen.

I disagree.....They are just fine! The only prob. is the round o-ring is hard to get into place....BIG DEAL. If it all went easy everyone would do there own work and there would not be a need for mechanics! Put a little "high-tac" on it and it will stay. No need in spending the extra $40 for some OEM kit that has the same parts in it!

I agree Thrash I try to go aftermarket every chance I can just for the cost factor alone. I don't know bout the rest of you but I have to save a penny or by todays standards $5.00 every chance I can. Thanks for all the info.

Well you can't buy a "rebuild kit" per se from Honda. You can buy a gasket set but you must buy all other parts separately. The gasket set IS expensive (around 25$) but usually it's all I need when doing ATV carbs. I just soak the dirty parts, even the neopreme tipped float needles, in a product made by Gunk called Hydrosolve II, and they come out looking like new. Why buy a bunch of parts you don't need even if they are cheap? Besides, the last time I used an aftermarket carb rebuild kit for an ATC 185, it didn't even come with the parts I needed to make the machine run right (needed a needle jet\jet needle and all it had was a needle and it didn't even look right).
