Reading Compression

hey, i want to to check the compression on my ol' baby. Do u like check it when its cold, or warm or been out riding type hot . i have never done a compression check before..any thing else i should do besides slammin the compression guage in the head? thx for any help

check while cold. hold the throddle wide open while kicking over your bike. let the gauge sit for ten minutes after you get your higest reading (about 10 to 15 kicks) if the compression drops slowly then you have a leak. if it dosent then read your number and thats what you got.

On bansheeesmoker's post....it depends on what compression gage you have.....most new ones have a check valve in the stem so you can let it sit there all day and it will never go down( that is a leakdown test)
Install the gage and kick it over......you need 4 bumps on the gage to get an accurate reading....do it cold.
