does anyone know some info on the seat on a 1983 185s? mostly, did it have a plastic seat pan, or was it metal? if i get a new seat kit, how is it installed if the pan is metal? thanks for any advice.

Aftermarket complete seat assemblies that include the pan are all plastic. the foam is glued to the pan and the cover is stapled to the pan.

The only seat assemblies with the steel pans are the OEM type that came on them. The foam is glued to the metal pan and the metal pan has "pointed tabs" that grip the cover and are bent over to keep the cover from coming off.

None of the ATC 185 or 185S models came with plastic pans stock.

To my knowledge, no one makes a "complete" seat kit WITH the pan except for those distributed by WideOpen. If it's a different brand, I would have them double check to see that you are indeed getting an entire seat or just foam and cover.

so would the seat cover and foam that denniskirk has listed work with the stock metal seat pan? would the metal tabs handle being bent again? right now its a tossup between fixing the seat right, or getting a block of foam and a bunjee cord. it all depends on how much trouble it will be. personally i would rather fix it right, but dont want to get into alot of custom work.
