gear ratios

what is the stock gear for an 84 200s. And what could I put in it to give it a better top speed and keep the 1 and 2 gear low.it will hit any where from 50 to 60 mph. I was wondering If I could change something to make it hit about 70. and keep the first two gears low to get up hills and play in the mud and other fun stuff like that.

I think you had a 43/11 stock ratio. Keep the 11 and try to get around a 40 rear sprocket. I am running a 40/12 in a 200X and I hit around the low 60's but low end torque and speed is right on! Throgh an aftermarket exaust (or gut yours) on it to help it out too.

I was looking in a magazine and I can get a sprocket for $15. Is this a good deal. I was thinking of put another one on it. I guess i'm trying to turn my 200s into a 200x. but would be the difference between a 47 and 40 tooth sprocket.

$15 dollars for a rear sprocket is a good deal but expect to replace it in a year, the higher you spend now the loger it will last(for the most part). But I use the cheap sprocket and a cheap chain, then I will just buy another cheap one in a year when they go out! If you change your rear sprocket to a 47 then you will pop a wheeley no prob, but you will loose at least 5mph on your top end. You will smoke them on a short race, but the longer the race the more you will get left behind. By changing the sprockets you will either get faster at the begining or at the end, you can not have both.

I think the 11/38 would be an interesting combo to try. You will notice a good difference. By the way, that is the advantage of buying the cheap sprockets, play with the gearing, if you find the perfect one then you could buy a good set. I would hate to spend $60 on a rear sprocket and decide I hate the gearing
The only prob you might have with the 38 is your take-off, That will depend on your clutch, weight, engine H.P., and YOU! If you find yourself frying the clutch durring take-offs, then it is too high of gearing (I dought you will have this prob)
