Default engine repair

Ok i'm really interested in learning how to build/rebuild small engines but i don't have the time and money to go to school plus i only want to do this as a hobby and to save from paying for labor,so what i'm wondering is there a website that explains how to do this,i would like to learn on a simpilar 2 cyl first then learn a 4 stroke right after can any one help me find a online website or forum where i can learn all this...thanks Rob

rob....get a service manual, and pull one apart.....its the best way to learn. and dont waist time learning on a 2 stroke if thats not what your gonna be rebuilding. two totally different things. as long as you understand basically how the system works, its pretty easy. some small things can snag you up....like making sure the ring gaps are not aligned, torquing the headbolts (nuts) evenly in stages, getting the timing right, ect. its real easy if you have someone experienced standing over your shoulder. to start though, pull an old junk motor apart, carefully paying attention to how everything goies together, and works in unison.

well actually i'm short on cash right now so what i'm gonna do is get some mower engines and chainsaw engines outta the trash cause it's spring clean up and learn on those,i do want to learn a 2 stroke engine so i can rebuild snowmobile engines too, cause i want to get another sled for this winter,so it would be worth learning in my case, and who knows i might end up buying a 250R very unlikely but ya never know..

not sure but i'm guessin it would let oil blow by and you'd keep fouling plugs..

phew, if its oil, i'm not worried about it, but if it can cause damage, well, i'd be tearing into the engine again on my little trail 90. i recently combined two engines that both had their own problems to make one good engine, very little experence, lost the service manual, but it runs great. wouldnt the rings work around alittle on their own anayhow? those little engines have never used any oil before and it still seems the same.
